Try Dealroom → completed two securitisation facilities worth up to £600 million over an initial three-year term. The remaining £350 million will support AdvantageDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, S&U's motor finance business.
The details: Provided by two Tier 1 UK financial institutions, the facilities replace the group's existing £330 million arrangements in full at improved interest and advance rates. They are non-recourse for commercial risk, and Advantage will keep a separate revolving credit facility of up to £25 million.
Why now? Aspen's loan book had grown 35% year-on-year to about £200 million, even as it reported margin pressure in a difficult property market and borrowers sought longer terms. S&U signalled the arrangement in September, with signing and drawdown expected in October.
What's the endgame? S&U says the lower-cost funding supports plans to nearly double receivables by 2030 while improving net interest margin. Chairman Anthony Coombs said the deal represents "possibly the most transformative event at S&U for 20 years."
By the numbers: At £250 million, Aspen's facility sits near the top of comparable deals, in roughly the 35th-highest percentile band for raise size — a sizeable line for a specialist bridging lender founded in 2017 that has now completed over 1,250 deals.
What could go wrong? The headline is a refinancing ceiling, not £600 million of new cash already drawn. Growth and profitability will hinge on lending demand and credit performance in a soft property market.
The signal: Specialist lenders are expanding secured funding fast — Together enlarged a bridging securitisation programme to £1.2 billion in August, while LendcoDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → added a £300 million line and extended a £250 million bridging facility. S&U's deal stands out for its scale and the cheaper capital it may unlock.
