Syngenta targets at least $66bn valuation in IPO, sources say (Reuters)

What's the news?

Syngenta's advisers are targeting a valuation of at least $66 billion for the Swiss-Chinese agrochemicals group's planned Hong Kong IPO, likely to be completed early next year, two people familiar with the matter told Reuters on 27 October 2026.

Banks are marketing the Basel-based seeds and crop-protection company at 15 to 20 times expected 2026 EBITDA. On Syngenta's 2025 EBITDA of $4.4 billion (up 17% year on year), that implies a range of about $66 billion to $88 billion — among the largest global IPOs expected next year, according to the sources.

UBS and China International Capital Corp (CICC) are leading the marketing, with China CITIC Bank and Bank of America also on the deal. Syngenta and UBS declined to comment; the other banks did not immediately respond.

Three sources said a listing before the end of 2026 remains possible, but an early-2027 debut is considered more likely. Bankers are meeting investors in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Beijing ahead of planned marketing in Frankfurt and London.

Context

Syngenta is controlled by Chinese state-owned Sinochem (ChemChina acquired the company for about $43 billion in 2017; the businesses later combined under Sinochem Holdings). The group is headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, sells seeds, herbicides, insecticides and fungicides plus biological and digital farming products, and employs more than 50,000 people in over 90 countries. It competes with BASF, Bayer and Corteva.

The company has already filed for the Hong Kong flotation and plans to sell a 10%–20% stake, aiming to raise roughly $5 billion to $10 billion to reduce debt and invest in crop protection and seeds. Sources said the valuation also reflects Syngenta's push to position itself more as a biotechnology company than a pure chemicals producer. The Hong Kong plan revives public-market efforts after a proposed Shanghai listing was withdrawn in 2024.
