ICEYE and OroraTech link satellite data for full-lifecycle wildfire intelligence

What's the deal? Finnish satellite firm ICEYE and Munich-based OroraTech announced a partnership on October 22, 2026 to deliver wildfire intelligence across the full lifecycle of an event. The capability combines OroraTech's thermal satellite data with ICEYE's synthetic aperture radar (SAR) observations in a single platform.

How it works: OroraTech's thermal data detects hotspots and tracks the fire front, while ICEYE's SAR can observe through smoke, cloud and darkness. Together they aim to help governments, insurers, utilities and emergency services detect fires sooner, monitor their spread, and assess damage to buildings and infrastructure.

What's the endgame? The partnership extends ICEYE's existing offer, which already assessed building-level damage during active fires, earlier in an event — from ignition through recovery. It links detection, progression and damage assessment into one near-real-time workflow that runs day and night.

"Wildfires are dynamic events, and the intelligence decision-makers need to evolve with them," said Will Panchaud, senior director of product management, solutions at ICEYE.

Why it matters: Wildfire data is often split across systems, and aircraft and optical imagery can be limited by smoke, cloud or darkness. ICEYE says the combined intelligence could support disaster declarations within 24 hours rather than weeks by replacing modelled estimates with verified locations and observed movement.

The signal: The deal reflects a broader push to connect satellite fire data with operational response. OroraTech recently partnered with Bridger AerospaceDealroom has a profile for this one. For now, the companies describe a capability — with no independent performance results or evidence of broad adoption yet.
