Egypt's Raya Holding launches venture arm, backs UK AI startup Pidima
What's the deal? Raya HoldingDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → for Financial Investments has launched Raya Ventures, a wholly owned corporate venture arm targeting early-stage AI and fintech startups. The Cairo-based conglomerate disclosed the move alongside the fund's first investment, in UK enterprise AI company Pidima. The fund's size was not disclosed.
The mandate: Established in 2025, Raya Ventures backs companies from pre-seed through Series A. It takes an Egypt-first approach across the Middle East and Africa, and also invests in international startups whose technology can scale into those markets.
The first bet: Pidima, founded in 2024, builds AI-enabled enterprise workflows and product lifecycle management software. Raya Ventures said the deal fits its mandate to back startups with regional expansion potential.
What's the endgame? Raya Ventures operates as a separate legal entity with its own mandate but connects founders to Raya Holding's industry expertise and regional network. The parent runs a diversified portfolio spanning IT, data centres, consumer electronics, e-payments, and non-banking financial services.
By the numbers: Raya Holding posted consolidated net profit of EGP 739.102 million in the first half of 2026, down 17.15% from EGP 892.043 million a year earlier. The new venture arm marks a fresh bet on startups even as earnings slip.
The signal: The launch lands in a cooling regional market. MAGNiTT reported $1.35 billion raised across MENA in H1 2026, down 22% year on year, with AI taking half of all investment but fewer deals getting done. Raya's commercial network could set it apart from financial-only backers — though with no fund size disclosed, the platform is a strategic bet, not yet a measure of Egypt's funding momentum.
