Thailand's i-Tail closes $160M US deal for Pet Treat Holdings

What's the deal? i-Tail Corporation, the pet food arm of Thailand's Thai Union Group, has completed its $160 million acquisition of US firm Pet Treat Holdings. The all-share deal, closed on October 22, 2026 through subsidiary i-Tail Americas, gives the Thai company full ownership of Pet Treat Holdings and its operating unit, Phelps Industries.

The details: i-Tail Americas bought all 12,320 shares of the Delaware-incorporated target, which manufactures and distributes pet food and treats. The purchase was funded from i-Tail's working capital and proceeds from its initial public offering.

What's the endgame? i-Tail said the objective is "to expand the Group's business opportunities in the United States." The deal adds Phelps' air-dried and jerky-style dog treats to i-Tail's strength in premium wet cat food, and gives it a US manufacturing base and direct access to American customers.

Why now? Companies are racing to build positions in pet nutrition and treats. In September, General MillsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → completed a reported $1.4 billion purchase of Whitebridge Pet BrandsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →' North American premium cat-food and treats business.

What could go wrong? The strategic case rests on cross-selling and reach. The key test will be whether i-Tail can integrate the business and turn that reach into profitable growth.

The signal: The acquisition marks a cross-border bet by an Asian manufacturer on the US pet market, expanding both its product mix and local supply-chain capacity as consolidation reshapes the sector.
