Lux Education buys BookShark, builds homeschool curriculum portfolio

What's the deal? Lux Education has acquired BookSharkDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, the literature-based homeschool curriculum business previously owned by InquisiCorp Corporation, in a transaction that closed on September 25, 2026. Terms were not disclosed. Sonlight is not part of the deal and remains with InquisiCorp.

What's the endgame? Lancaster, Pennsylvania-based Lux is assembling a focused curriculum portfolio. BookShark joins Total Language Plus and Diana Waring's History Revealed, two brands led by Lux founders Brandon and Lanette Judy, under the same group.

What changes? Lux says it plans to preserve each brand's identity rather than fold them into a single product. Its priority during the transition is supporting existing families and school partners, with staged investment in customer support, curriculum development, school partnerships, and e-commerce and digital platforms.

BookShark pairs selected books with instructor's guides, scheduled lessons and hands-on activities across history, science and language arts, plus a choice of math programs. Total Language Plus uses Charlotte Mason literature-centered novel studies from a Christian perspective, while History Revealed teaches through storytelling and a biblical perspective.

Why now? The deal lands amid continued growth in US homeschooling. EdChoice reported that 80% of states with available data saw homeschool participation rise in 2024–25, with the post-pandemic share roughly double its pre-pandemic level.

Lux is led by the Judys alongside Brandon Detweiler and Josh Green. Brandon Judy brings more than 15 years of homeschool publishing experience; Lanette Judy has over 25 years in education. Detweiler contributes an education technology and e-commerce background through Ion Layer and Schoolahoop, and Green brings finance and strategic oversight.

"As a homeschool graduate and homeschooling parent, I know how much trust goes into choosing a curriculum," said Brandon Judy, president and chief executive officer of Lux Education. "Our job is to earn that trust by protecting what makes these programs valuable, supporting the people who use them, and investing thoughtfully in their future."

The signal: This is less a large-scale sector consolidation than a targeted ownership change in a growing niche. With InquisiCorp keeping Sonlight and Lux building a multi-brand group, the move signals investor interest in curriculum businesses as homeschooling demand stays elevated.
