Orana lands $6M to process East African fruit locally

What's the deal? Danish fruit-processing company OranaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has raised $6 million (US$5.87M) in growth equity from Impact Fund DenmarkDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → to fund an expansion into Uganda and Kenya.

What does Orana do? Based on the Danish island of Funen, it produces fruit-based ingredients for the food industry and operates across several international markets. Founder and managing director Niels Østerberg says there is "great potential to process more East African fruit locally."

Where's the money going? In Uganda, Orana will expand production with a local partner and add a line for pineapple concentrate. In Kenya, it will build a new factory making fruit-based blends for dairies and other regional food manufacturers.

Why now? The deal is the first investment under Impact Fund Denmark's Africa Facility, a vehicle funded by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to back Danish companies establishing or expanding in Africa. The facility has a total allocation of US$51.3M for 2025 to 2028.

What's the endgame? Østerberg wants to create value "closer to both the raw materials and our customers," while generating local jobs. Impact Fund Denmark chief executive officer Lars Bo Bertram frames Orana as "a great example of a truly Danish company from Funen with international ambitions."

The signal: At $6 million, the round is modest, but it marks the opening move for a new state-backed fund aimed at deepening commercial ties between Denmark and Africa's growth markets. Bertram hopes it can "pave the way for more Danish companies to seize the opportunities in African markets."
