Luminor backs Latvian road builder SMA with €3M financing package
What's the deal? Luminor BankDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has granted Latvian construction company SMA SIA €3 million in financing. The package combines a working-capital credit line, guarantees for construction projects, and leasing to buy specialised equipment.
What's the endgame? SMA, founded in 2023, builds and reconstructs roads, streets, paved areas, and bridges, and carries out most of its work with its own team and equipment. The financing is meant to secure the guarantees required for project execution and fund larger contracts.
Why now? SMA has grown fast. Its 2025 turnover reached €20 million — nearly four times the 2024 figure — while headcount rose fivefold over the year.
What's the catch? Road construction depends on steady work volumes and financing. "Long project implementation cycles require companies not only to secure new contracts, but also to thoughtfully manage cash flow and maintain financial flexibility between project stages," said Ilze Zoltnere, head of the corporate department at Luminor Bank in Latvia.
SMA participates in state and municipal procurements and works with other industry players on infrastructure projects. "Collaboration with Luminor will allow us to plan our next development steps more confidently and take on larger projects," said Andris Gitendorfs, a member of the management board.
The signal: Luminor, the leading independent bank in the Baltic states, is backing a young, fast-growing contractor rather than a single landmark project. The deal reads as ordinary SME financing — a vote of confidence in regional road and bridge work, not a shift in construction-sector investment.
