Real Diagnostics buys SimplyTest to add saliva-based oral health testing

What's the deal? Real DiagnosticsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has acquired SimplyTest, a provider of saliva-based diagnostic tests for oral health, for an undisclosed sum. RealDx is a CLIA-certified clinical laboratory specializing in high-complexity molecular infectious disease and toxicology testing. The deal, announced in October 2026, adds periodontal testing to its lab offering for dental providers.

What's the endgame? SimplyTest's flagship product, PERIO, uses a non-invasive swish-and-spit saliva sample to identify periodontal pathogens, giving clinicians organism-level data to personalize therapy. Adding it extends RealDx's portfolio — which spans urinary tract, sexually transmitted, respiratory, and toxicology testing — into oral health. It also broadens the provider types RealDx serves to include dental practices.

Why now? SimplyTest has recently expanded its dental reach, striking partnerships with Smile SourceDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, whose network tops 800 practices, and Seattle Study ClubDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. It has also launched tests for oral HPV and implant-related microbes.

"The natural affinity between our operations enables us to seamlessly integrate the SimplyTest PERIO product into our best-in-class provider service model," said Cary Breese, chief executive officer of Real Diagnostics.

What changes for customers? Providers can now access oral health testing through a single laboratory relationship. SimplyTest's PERIO product and provider support will continue without interruption under CLIA-certified standards.

What could go wrong? The key question is whether RealDx can turn SimplyTest's dental partnerships and niche assays into sustained testing volume.

The signal: The acquisition is a targeted capability add-on rather than a sign of broad market change, combining RealDx's molecular and microbiology services with saliva-based oral health testing. It follows RealDx's own September 2025 acquisition by Salt Creek CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, giving the deal a sponsor-backed growth context. More broadly, recent lab deals have focused on adding specialty-testing capabilities and expanding reach.
