Paras Healthcare pulls in $69M from anchors ahead of October 21 IPO

What's the deal? Paras Healthcare, which runs hospitals under the Paras Health brand, has raised US$88.6M (about $68.9 million, FX-converted) from anchor investors ahead of its US$19.7-crore IPO, which opens for public bids on October 21. The company allotted 94,15,584 shares to 39 funds at US$9.41 apiece, the top of its US$8.96–US$9.41 price band.

What's the structure? The offer splits into a US$6.79-crore fresh issue and a US$12.9-crore offer for sale, making it largely a partial exit for existing shareholders. Proceeds from the fresh issue are earmarked mainly for repaying debt, including borrowings at subsidiary Plus Medicare Hospitals.

Who's behind it? The Delhi-based operator runs eight hospitals with 2,211 beds and counts private equity firm CreadorDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and 360 ONE among its backers. JM FinancialDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, BofA Securities India, and Nuvama Wealth Management are managing the issue, which will list on the BSE and NSE.

Why now? The listing follows a strong year for Indian hospital IPOs. Temasek-backed Manipal Health raised US$1.26B in July, and its shares debuted about 11% above the offer price — a sign of investor appetite for large hospital networks.

What could go wrong? Paras trimmed its issue from an originally proposed US$244.4M, so final demand and pricing bear watching. The anchor allocation at the top of the band is a constructive signal, but no guarantee of strong public subscription or listing gains.

The signal: Mid-sized hospital chains are now testing public markets on the back of marquee debuts. Paras is far smaller than Manipal, making its reception a useful gauge of how deep investor appetite runs beyond the sector's biggest names.
