VR maker Pimax takes strategic investment from Agibot-backed data platform Mifeng

What's the deal? Pimax Technology, a VR headset maker, has raised strategic financing from Zhiyuan Mifeng TechnologyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, with the two parties agreeing to jointly build embodied intelligence data infrastructure. The amount was not disclosed.

Who's investing? Mifeng Technology is a physical AI data service platform incubated by Agibot. It runs a crowdsourcing platform, "Mifeng Pai," to promote mass public data collection for robot training.

Why now? The training data gap for embodied intelligence models is a widely recognised industry bottleneck. Real-world scenarios are hard to cover, collection costs are high, and data quality is inconsistent.

What's the endgame? Pimax brings a decade of spatial computing experience to capturing human movement and intent at high fidelity. "What Pimax has accumulated over ten years is exactly the capability to enable machines to understand how humans interact with space," said chief executive officer Ren Pan, adding it would extend that capability to AI.

Mifeng chairman and chief executive officer Yao Maoqing framed the rationale bluntly: "The most scarce resource for the development of embodied intelligence is data." He called Pimax "an important hardware partner" in the parties' shared data initiative and said the two would collaborate on collection technologies.

The partnership builds on prior ties. Pimax had already joined the "Honeycomb Data Co-Creation Initiative" led by Mifeng alongside SEARI, the National Data Standardization Technical Committee, and the CCID Research Institute of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

What could go wrong? The announcement does not establish how much capital changed hands or whether the partnership will produce usable training data at scale.

The signal: The deal reflects a broader shift in China's embodied-AI market toward data infrastructure, as investors target the shortage of real-world robot-training data. Linking a headset maker to a robot-data platform turns VR hardware into a practical capture channel — a logic now driving a race among competitors to scale collection.
