CemVision wins EU grant as €3.4B backs 77 net-zero projects

What's the deal? Swedish green cement startup CemVision is among 77 net-zero projects selected for support under the European CommissionDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s €3.4bn Innovation Fund, announced in October 2026. Reverion, Holosis, and EpyrDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → also feature among the companies set to receive funding.

What does CemVision do? The company builds low-emission cement technology. "This grant brings us a decisive step closer to building our first commercial plant," said chief executive officer Claes Kollberg.

Why now? The call drew 358 applications seeking €17.5bn against a €2.9bn budget — a sign of heavy demand for public backing of capital-intensive climate projects. Selections span 23 European Economic Area countries.

What's the scope? The chosen projects cover clean-tech manufacturing, storage, and critical-materials recycling. For the first time, the fund also backs small modular nuclear and direct-air carbon capture projects. The Commission estimates they could avoid about 290 million tonnes of emissions over their first decade.

What could go wrong? The emissions figure is a projection, not a result. Grant agreements still need to be finalised, with outcomes expected in early 2027.

The signal: Despite framing around startups and venture capital, this is public money de-risking large-scale climate infrastructure, much of it industrial rather than venture-backed. The real story is the scale of state support flowing into capital-intensive clean technology across Europe.
