Tech executive buys Sacramento's Polaris Dental Lab in SBA-backed deal

What's the deal? Technology executive Jonathan Wu has acquired Polaris Dental Lab, a full-service dental laboratory in Sacramento, through Polaris Dental Technologies, Inc., a company he formed to buy the lab's assets. The sale closed in July 2026. Terms were not disclosed.

What stays the same? The lab keeps its name, staff, and facility on El Camino Avenue. For referring dentists, operations are unchanged: the same technicians handle each case, the submission process holds, and complimentary pickup and delivery remain.

Who sold it? Dental technician Elicia Hill founded Polaris in 2019 and has over 30 years in the industry. She sold to retire and now serves as an advisor, keeping no ownership stake and providing no seller financing. The deal was financed through a US Small Business Administration (SBA) 7(a) loan from U.S. Bank.

Who's the buyer? Wu's background is in enterprise software and operations. He was a business advisor and angel investor in Silicon Valley and most recently served as chief operating officer of ZenOpticsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, an enterprise software company. He holds a business administration degree from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley.

What's the endgame? Under Wu, the lab is upgrading its quality control and production systems to improve marginal fit and contact accuracy, make turnaround times more predictable, and reduce chairside adjustments. It continues to fabricate fixed and removable prosthetics in-house, accepting both physical impressions and digital intraoral scans.

“By pairing our technicians' hands-on skill with the structured quality control and process systems I've built throughout my enterprise career, our single-minded focus is to make sure every restoration fits right the first time,” said Wu, chief executive officer of Polaris Dental Technologies.

The signal: The deal reflects a growing pattern of operators from technology and finance acquiring small, specialised businesses through SBA-backed financing, then applying structured process management to craft-driven industries. Sacramento Business Brokers represented the seller, with founder Luke Middendorf managing the sale.
