Siempelkamp buys SicoScan measurement line in EWS majority deal

What's the deal? German machinery group Siempelkamp has acquired the "SicoScan" measurement-technology systems from Electronic Wood Systems (EWS), taking over production, worldwide sales and service, and research and development for the product line. Siempelkamp has also become EWS's new majority owner. The terms were not disclosed.

What each side does: Krefeld-based Siempelkamp builds machinery and plants for the wood-based panel industry. EWS, based in Hameln, makes measurement systems used in panel production, including the SicoScan range.

What changes for customers? EWS stays the point of contact for its direct customers, continuing to offer and sell its portfolio independently worldwide. Siempelkamp will manufacture the SicoScan line in-house and fold service for its existing plants into its global service network, giving customers continuous support across installed machines.

What's the endgame? The deal is part of an organisational realignment Siempelkamp has already begun. By absorbing the SicoScan products, it closes a gap in its measurement portfolio and secures long-term development of the systems.

Siempelkamp links the move to its push for autonomous, self-optimising plants. Its SicoScan NEO system analyses weight distribution and detects foreign bodies after the pre-press, feeding a closed control loop for consistent accuracy without human intervention.

Data control: Authority over remote access to Siempelkamp's "Prod-IQ" control system stays solely with the customer, as before. The same applies to the online connection of the evaluation unit and the programmable logic controller.

The signal: By pulling a specialist measurement line in-house, Siempelkamp tightens control over the full production chain — a step toward the closed-loop, data-integrated plants it is building for the wood-panel market.
