Disc Medicine seeks $350M after positive Phase 3 result for lead drug

What's the deal? Disc Medicine (NASDAQ: IRON) launched a proposed $350 million underwritten public offering of common stock and pre-funded warrants on Monday. The clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company plans to grant underwriters a 30-day option to buy additional shares.

Why now? The offering lands the same day Disc reported that bitopertin, its lead candidate, met all primary and secondary endpoints in the pivotal Phase 3 APOLLO trial for erythropoietic protoporphyria. The company plans to resubmit its New Drug Application by year-end 2026 and expects an FDA decision by mid-2027 — after the agency previously declined to approve the drug.

What's the endgame? Disc develops treatments for serious hematologic diseases, targeting pathways of red blood cell biology. The fresh capital appears aimed at supporting potential commercialization and its broader pipeline as bitopertin nears another regulatory decision.

Why it stands out: At $350 million, the raise ranks in the top 17% of funding rounds by size. It follows a $250 million offering in October 2025 and a $225.5 million offering in January 2025, underscoring Disc's repeated access to sizeable public-market funding.

What could go wrong? This is not an obvious cash crunch: Disc reported $717.7 million in cash and marketable securities at the end of June, enough to fund plans into 2029. The offering is only proposed, so its final size and terms remain uncertain.

The signal: A positive late-stage trial paired with a same-day raise is a familiar biotech playbook — convert good clinical news into a well-timed capital top-up ahead of a commercial push and a looming FDA verdict.
