kothes buys medical-tech documentation specialist eDok

What's the deal? German documentation services provider kothes GmbH has acquired Eisenrieth Dokumentations GmbH (eDok), effective October 1, 2026. Terms were not disclosed.

The deal makes kothes, based in Kempen, one of the leading providers of technical documentation and smart information in the German-speaking region, it said.

What's the endgame? eDok will continue as an independent company within the kothes group. Existing contracts, ongoing projects, and customer contacts stay in place.

The two combine complementary strengths: eDok brings more than 30 years of experience in medical technology and software documentation, while kothes adds a broader service range spanning consulting, creation, translation, and digital delivery.

Why now? kothes is betting on new technology to reshape the field. The company cited expertise in using artificial intelligence for technical documentation, and said the deal creates synergies in regulatory documentation, content-delivery solutions, and AI-supported information processing.

Where it's growing: kothes operates sites in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the UK. That international footprint gives eDok's customers access to a wider geographic reach and service set.

"eDok has built an excellent reputation in demanding markets over decades," said Manuel Welter, managing director of kothes. "We are pleased to combine this expertise with our innovative strength."

Kerstin Menge, eDok's former managing partner, said the company had found "a partner who shares our values and at the same time opens up new opportunities for our customers." (translated from German)

The signal: Consolidation is reaching the technical documentation sector as AI reshapes how product information is created and delivered. By folding in a specialist with deep medical-device credentials, kothes is building scale in regulated markets where compliant documentation carries high stakes.
