Nomada launches "distribution for equity" fund, trading reach for startup stakes
What's the deal? Nomada Fund launched in Miami on October 19, 2026, as what it calls the world's first New Media fund. Instead of capital, it invests "Media Credits" — sustained distribution across more than 10 platforms including newsletters, podcasts, communities, events, and search — in exchange for equity in pre-seed and seed startups with traction in Latin America and the US.
How it works: Nomada adapts the media-for-equity model, where media groups trade advertising space for equity, with two twists. It operates on new media platforms rather than TV, radio, or print, and it invests at the earliest stages rather than at maturity — a structure it calls "distribution for equity."
Who's behind it? The fund is backed by ILB Media Group, a conglomerate of more than 20 finance and investment outlets across the US and Latin America. Co-founder and managing partner Jose Kont is a new media investor and partner at Impacta VCDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, CAFI, and Cuantico VP. Co-founder Israel García Ballesteros runs Startuplinks, a Spanish-speaking community of VC funds and accelerators with more than 270 institutional members.
Why now? As AI agents and no-code tools let small teams rebuild working products in days, the firm argues technology alone no longer protects startups. "A startup's most valuable asset is no longer just its product, but its brand and relationships," Kont said.
The product play: Nomada points to declining organic reach as its opening. Rival IQDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s 2026 benchmark report puts median Instagram engagement at 0.30% of followers, down from 0.36%. The fund says it helps startups move that "rented attention" into owned channels like newsletters, communities, and events.
Context: Nomada has clear precedent. In May 2026, Mercurius Media CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → announced a five-year, $25 million arrangement with A+E NetworksDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. Nomada's stated distinction is extending the idea beyond ad slots into sustained, multi-format distribution.
The signal: The launch reflects a wider investor focus on customer acquisition and audience access. But creator-economy funding has been uneven, and investors increasingly want repeatable revenue, not reach alone. Nomada's significance will hinge on how it values the distribution it provides, and whether portfolio companies can turn it into durable customers.
