Apple buys Swiss AI audio startup Samplab to sharpen Logic Pro

What's the deal? Apple has acquired SamplabDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Zurich-based AI audio editing startup, through an unnamed subsidiary. According to the European Union's public list of acquisitions, Apple is taking certain assets and offering jobs to some employees. The deal value was undisclosed.

What does Samplab do? Founded in 2020 by Manuel Fritsche and Gian-Marco Hutter, the startup described itself as building "music production for the age of AI." Its software could "change any note in your audio" and "detect and edit chords," plus offer granular stem separation.

The company is small — no more than 10 employees, and LinkedIn profiles suggest it may now run on just its two founders.

What's the endgame? Samplab's software ran as a plugin for digital audio workstations, including Logic Pro. Apple has offered AI stem splitting since 2024, isolating vocals, guitars, and drums into separate tracks. Samplab's technology could push that further, letting users edit individual notes within a chord.

Why now? Samplab closed down in late June 2026, refunding subscribers for the remainder of their annual fees. Its website now redirects to apple.com, and its social channels have been cleared out.

What could go wrong? Neither company has commented publicly, and there is no confirmed integration plan. For now, the deal looks more like a small technology and talent purchase than a guaranteed product leap — whether Samplab's note-level editing reaches Logic Pro remains speculative.

The signal: This is the latest in a string of small acquisitions Apple has reported to the EU, alongside AI firms HuxeDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and Prompt AIDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. The pattern fits Apple's recent push to fold AI into its creative tools, from chord detection to Stem Splitter — buying talent and technology quietly rather than making headline-grabbing deals.
