Twisted Group buys long-time partner SAC & Co. to bring fabrication in-house

What's the deal? Land RoverDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → Defender specialist Twisted Group has acquired a majority stake in Coventry-based SAC & Co. Engineering Design Ltd, bringing 3D scanning, engineering surfacing, custom tooling, and hand-crafted sheet metal fabrication in-house. Terms were undisclosed.

Who's who? Thirsk-headquartered Twisted Group reinterprets classic Land Rovers and Range Rovers across its automotive and marine divisions. SAC & Co. has long served as its specialist partner, most recently helping design the TRRC, Twisted's bespoke take on the two-door Range Rover.

For that project, SAC & Co. scanned the donor vehicle, collaborated on surfacing, developed tooling, and still manufactures the hand-crafted 1.5mm aluminium outer body panels.

Why now? The deal aims to meet rising demand across Twisted's automotive and marine divisions. It also completes what chief operating officer Jake Cronk called the group's "cradle-to-grave manufacturing capability."

What changes? Not much operationally. SAC & Co. keeps its name, corporate structure, and Coventry base, and will continue serving external clients alongside Twisted projects. Steve Charlton stays on as managing director.

What's the endgame? International expansion. "Combined with carbon fibre and advanced composite specialist KS CompositesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Twisted MarineDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and Twisted Automotive, we now possess the ultimate toolbox for niche manufacturing as we expand in North America and other international markets," Cronk said.

Charlton framed the move as a "natural evolution of a relationship built over many years," adding that the group structure provides "the resources and stability" to grow.

The signal: Niche vehicle builders are increasingly folding specialist suppliers into their own operations, trading arm's-length partnerships for vertical control over craft-heavy processes that are hard to source at scale.
