Inside Capital Partners backs Zambian honey producer Wuchi Wami

What's the deal? Inside Capital PartnersDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has invested in Wuchi Wami, a Zambian producer of single-origin Miombo honey. The company sources organic honey from rural beekeepers organised into co-operatives, then processes, packages and sells it to retailers and food manufacturers across Southern Africa.

What's the endgame? The capital will fund Wuchi Wami's plan to expand processing and packing capacity, grow its retail brand and private-label business, and widen its base of smallholder beekeepers.

Why it matters: Wuchi Wami runs a supply chain that stretches from hive to shelf, buying from thousands of rural producers. Formalising that chain, its backer argues, offers a direct route to lift rural incomes.

Szymon Starosta, investment manager at Inside Capital Partners, said Wuchi Wami has built "a moat that is hard to copy — the trust of thousands of rural beekeepers, and a supply chain that runs from the hive to the shelf." He added: "Formalising rural value chains is one of the most direct ways to raise incomes in Southern Africa."

Harry Malichi, founder and managing director of Wuchi Wami, said the partnership gives the company "the capital and the discipline to process more of what our outgrower beekeepers produce, to reach more shelves in the region, and to keep paying a fair price at the farm gate."

The signal: The deal reflects investor interest in agribusinesses that link smallholder farmers to formal markets — a model that ties commercial growth to rural livelihoods in Southern Africa.
