Try Dealroom →, a UK drainage and wastewater specialist, for an undisclosed sum. Draintech will be rebranded as Ipsum Asset Management Services and folded into Ipsum's core divisions.
What does Draintech do? The Midlands-based firm offers drainage repair and maintenance, Cured-in-Place Pipe (CIPP) lining for sewer rehabilitation, high-pressure jetting, and CCTV drain surveys. It has decades of experience serving public and private clients, including housing associations and local councils.
What's the endgame? Ipsum operates across water, power, and control and automation, delivering engineering services that improve asset performance. The deal broadens its drainage and wastewater offering and extends its reach across the UK.
Why now? Chief executive officer Andrew Cowan tied the move to rising investment in critical water and drainage assets. There is "increasing demand for responsive, preventative and less disruptive solutions," he said, which the acquisition is meant to meet.
Draintech's management team stays on. Operations manager Hannah Williams said joining Ipsum lets the firm "build on the strong foundations we have developed, while accessing a broader range of capabilities and expertise for our customers."
The signal: The acquisition reflects steady consolidation in the UK water and drainage sector, where larger engineering groups absorb regional specialists to assemble national coverage. For Ipsum, bolting on technical depth and local relationships is a faster route to scale than building the same capability in-house.
