Talon Precision buys Silicon Valley machine shop ADEM in West Coast push
What's the deal? Talon PrecisionDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has acquired ADEM, LLCDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Santa Clara, California precision machining and engineering firm, for an undisclosed sum. The transaction closed on October 8, and ADEM will now operate as ADEM Precision LLC.
Why it matters: The deal marks Talon Precision's entry into the West Coast and deepens its position in the semiconductor equipment supply chain. Founded in 1997, ADEM machines to tolerances of ±.0001" across materials from aluminum and titanium to exotic alloys and engineered plastics.
What does ADEM do? From a 30,000 square foot Silicon Valley facility, it offers turnkey solutions spanning design, engineering, prototyping, machining, assembly, and volume production. Its 40 CNC machine tools serve the semiconductor, robotics, aerospace, defense, medical, and energy markets.
The expansion play: Talon Precision, a recently launched company backed by $75 million in initial equity capital, aims to build what it calls "the nation's premier precision manufacturing business." ADEM gives it a physical foothold in Silicon Valley, close to where its target customers design and build.
What's the endgame? Talon acquires precision manufacturers for the long term, keeping their cultures while adding resources and technology. "The opportunity now is to scale it: more capacity, faster turns, and engineering that gets involved earlier in our customers' design cycles," said James Pradun, incoming president of ADEM.
The signal: The deal reflects a buy-and-build approach to precision manufacturing, a fragmented sector of independent shops increasingly courted by capital-backed platforms. As demand grows for tight-tolerance components in semiconductors and defense, consolidators like Talon are betting that scale and in-house engineering will win the most demanding work.
