IPS buys Bold Renewables to lock up OEM parts for 14,000 aging solar inverters
What's the deal? Integrated Power Services (IPS)Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, North America's largest provider of aftermarket power management lifecycle services, has acquired Bold RenewablesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, effective October 9. Terms were undisclosed. Windsor, Colorado-based Bold is the exclusive OEM source of field service, spare parts, and preventive maintenance for Advanced Energy central solar inverters branded Solaron, NX, TX, and PV Powered.
Why it matters: Bold supports roughly 14,000 legacy solar inverters — more than 4 GW of capacity across over 3,000 sites in the US and Canada. Crucially, it holds the original design drawings, blueprints, and firmware for those platforms, giving it a proprietary parts position rivals cannot easily match.
Why now? That installed base is ageing. Bold's stocked parts and specialised service offer owners an alternative to full inverter replacement, which triggers costly rewiring and repowering of solar fields. The company reports 99% average inverter uptime.
What's the endgame? Bold joins the IPS Motion division's renewable energy group, operating alongside ENA ElectronicsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and IPS FolcroftDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. The move follows the ENA deal and extends IPS into whole-inverter repair and cross-trained field technicians spanning solar and wind.
"Bold's exclusive OEM parts position, experienced field service team, and installed-base reach complement IPS' engineering, component repair, and renewable energy service capabilities," said John Zuleger, president and chief executive officer of IPS.
What changes for customers? Independent power producers, utilities, solar asset managers, and site owners get access to IPS' broader engineering, repair, and logistics resources. Bold president Brenda Clarke said IPS brings more resources "while preserving the OEM knowledge, parts access, and responsiveness they rely on."
The signal: As the first wave of utility-scale solar hardware ages out of warranty, the aftermarket for keeping it running is consolidating. By bolting Bold onto ENA and Folcroft, IPS is building a one-stop lifecycle platform across solar, wind, and storage — betting that maintaining old assets is a durable business as OEMs leave customers underserved.
