Diversified buys Smart Buildings Media, folding its London show into a 15,000-visitor event cluster
What's the deal? Diversified UK & EuropeDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has acquired Smart Buildings Media Limited (SBMDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →), the company behind the Smart Buildings Show event and two digital titles, Smart Buildings MagazineDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and Smart Infrastructure MagazineDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. The deal value was not disclosed.
What each side brings: SBM's annual show at Excel London draws more than 100 exhibitors and 3,500 visitors from energy management, IT, proptech, and controls, while its publications reach tens of thousands of subscribers each month. Diversified already runs Digital Construction Week and GEO Business.
Why now? The acquisition reflects how the smart buildings sector has grown, said SBM co-owner John Hatcher, who called it "a reflection of how the sector has grown." Hatcher and sales manager Claire Hatchett will join Diversified.
What changes? From 2027, Smart Buildings Show will be co-located with Digital Construction Week and GEO Business at Excel London on 23-24 June. It will stay a stand-alone event with its own entrance and identity, while the three shows together draw more than 350 exhibitors and 15,000 visitors.
What's the endgame? Diversified wants scale without losing the show's distinct focus. "Bringing the show alongside Digital Construction Week and GEO Business lets us give it real scale while keeping its own distinct identity," said Diversified UK managing director Carsten Holm.
The signal: The deal continues a Diversified buying streak. Chief corporate development officer Oakley Dyer said the firm keeps looking for "strategic acquisition opportunities, both in the UK and Europe and across the other regions where Diversified operates," pointing to further consolidation in the built-environment events market.
