Spain's Asturias launches €10M Alantre fund to back regional reindustrialisation
What's the deal? The Society of the Principality of Asturias (SRP)Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has launched the Alantre Business Consolidation FundDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a new instrument to finance business investment across the Spanish region. It opens with an initial allocation of €10 million, split evenly between ordinary and participating loans.
Where does the money come from? The fund draws on the European Union's Just Transition Fund (JTF)Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, which finances the reindustrialisation of regions hit hardest by the shift to a decarbonised economy. Eligible investments fall under Priority AST 3, supporting SMEs and strategic projects that diversify these territories.
What's on offer? Ordinary loans range from €200,000 to €5 million per project, with repayment terms of one to ten years and a grace period of up to two years. Interest is capped at Euribor plus 0.75 percentage points. Participating loans, also backed by €5 million, combine a fixed return with a variable component tied to company performance.
Who can apply? Both SMEs and large companies qualify, provided their project supports the transition to a climate-neutral economy and creates at least five jobs linked to the funded activity. Financing can cover up to 70% of eligible costs, including land, buildings, machinery, software, patents and licences.
Why now? The fund is part of the region's social dialogue agreement and was presented on October 15 by regional ministers Borja Sánchez and Guillermo Peláez, alongside SRP president David González. Asturias is among the EU regions most exposed to the decline of carbon-intensive industry.
What's the endgame? SRP will assess applications individually, weighing each investment's viability and the company's repayment capacity. Returns from individual investments will be reinvested in new projects, keeping the capital working within the region.
The signal: Alantre shows how EU transition funding is being channelled through regional vehicles to turn decarbonisation mandates into concrete industrial investment. For Asturias, the aim is to use public capital to diversify, modernise and expand production capacity where private financing has lagged.
