What's the endgame? The deal lets the New York private equity firm extend its hold on Whitsons, a Hauppauge, New York food service management company serving schools, healthcare, and commercial customers. Part of the capital is earmarked to fund further growth.
The track record: GenNx360 says Whitsons has tripled in size during its ownership, expanding its onsite dining presence from seven to 17 states and moving into residential healthcare, co-manufacturing, and transportation. The firm made eight acquisitions along the way.
Both GenNx360 and the Whitsons management team reinvested significantly in the transaction. Churchill, which is also a lender to Whitsons, led the continuation vehicle as its primary investor.
"We see tremendous opportunity to continue growing the business during our second hold," said Rishi Verma, a partner at GenNx360.
Why now? Continuation funds let sponsors hold onto portfolio companies they believe have more room to run, rather than sell at the end of a traditional fund's life. GenNx360 manages about $3 billion in capital and targets US lower middle market industrial and business services companies.
Nick Lawler, head of secondaries at Churchill, said the company's "strong track record, differentiated offering, and continued expansion across attractive end markets position it well for its next phase of growth."

The signal: Single-asset continuation funds have become a favoured tool for private equity firms seeking liquidity for existing investors while retaining their best-performing assets. GenNx360's deal shows sponsors increasingly betting on known winners over new acquisitions.
