LightOn launches enterprise AI platform on Scaleway's sovereign cloud
What's the deal? LightOnDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has unveiled LightOn Suite, a new platform for building AI applications on enterprise data, available today as SaaS and as a managed private cloud on Scaleway's French infrastructure. The suite pairs LightOn Core, which structures and indexes enterprise documents into a searchable knowledge base, with LightOn Apps, which lets teams turn that knowledge into business applications such as contract-clause comparison or supplier-bid analysis.
Scaleway is also launching its first OCR offering: a managed API for LightOnOCR-3, the document-intelligence model that powers ingestion inside LightOn Core. Released on 8 October 2026 under an Apache 2.0 licence, LightOnOCR-3 tops the average of three open OCR benchmarks (olmOCR-Bench, ParseBench, FRBench-pdf2md) and succeeds LightOnOCR-2, which is downloaded 240,000 times a month on Hugging Face.
Why now? LightOn Suite targets a problem it says derails many enterprise AI projects: document knowledge scattered across contracts, emails and scanned archives, with every project rebuilding its own copy. For generation, customers can choose between open models hosted in Europe by Scaleway or providers such as Mistral, Anthropic and OpenAI — with the entire stack built for regulated sectors including finance, asset management and the public sector.
What's the endgame? "Companies don't have a model problem, they have a data problem," said LightOn CEO Jean-Philippe Baert. "With Core, we make document assets usable once and for all; with Apps, business teams turn them into applications in a matter of days... Offering it on Scaleway from day one gives French companies and public administrations a complete chain, from models to infrastructure, designed and operated in France." Scaleway CEO Damien Lucas said the partnership helps companies "turn their document assets into AI applications that deliver real value to their teams" while retaining control over their technology choices.
The signal: The launch reflects a wider European push for sovereign AI — infrastructure and software that keep sensitive workloads inside the continent's own borders, free of reliance on US tech giants.
