New fund

The Yield Lab targets $39.9M fund for conversational-AI agtech

What's the deal? The Yield Lab LatamDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → is raising RAIZ, a new venture capital fund of up to US$51.2M, to back agtech startups building conversational AI for farmers. The firm wants to assemble a portfolio of roughly 25 startups, writing cheques of US$255.8K to US$1.28M each.

Why conversational AI? Managing partner Kieran Gartlan says AI agents that talk to farmers over WhatsApp, including by voice, can reshape how startups reach producers. First-generation agtech relied on apps and manual data entry — tools ill-suited to farm routines.

Traditional digital tools mostly reach about 100,000 large producers, Gartlan says. "Conversational agents can potentially reach Brazil's five million rural establishments," he told AgFeed (translated from Portuguese).

Faster returns: Gartlan argues easier adoption and scale could shorten the investment-to-exit cycle from the usual 10 years to six. He expects pressure on large companies to adopt AI — and their difficulty hiring specialists and meeting data-protection rules — to drive acquisitions of startups with tested products, speeding investor exits.

He also sees the current low-liquidity moment in venture as favourable for buying stakes at lower valuations. "When the market is very hot, you have less time to evaluate and end up paying more," he said.

The plan: RAIZ will fund "AI-first" startups, including agricultural fintechs, commercialisation and logistics technologies, and bio-inputs. Up to a third of the fund may go to bringing foreign technologies to Brazil via The Yield LabDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s international network.

The money and timeline: The firm aims to raise US$12.8M by March 2027, when it expects to sign its first cheques, then continue fundraising for six months to a year to reach the US$51.2M target. Current partners have signalled interest in RAIZ, though no investments are confirmed.

The Yield LabDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → currently manages $54 million across Latin America, with more than 90% deployed. Over nine years it has invested in 35 startups across seven countries, more than half of them Brazilian; the remaining $5 million is reserved for follow-on investments. The signal: The Yield Lab is betting that conversational AI can finally extend agtech beyond large producers to Brazil's millions of smaller farms — and that corporate appetite for ready-made AI will deliver quicker exits. It is pitching itself as "smart money," in Gartlan's words, rather than a rival to high interest rates.
