DTGen buys Ireland's Realpower to expand UK and Irish critical power
What's the deal? DTGenDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a standby power generation specialist, has acquired Irish generator maintenance firm RealpowerDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → for an undisclosed sum, DCC Energy Ireland announced in October 2026. The deal creates a combined UK and Irish provider of critical power engineering, installation, and maintenance services.
What each side brings: DTGen contributes 22 years in standby power and project delivery; Realpower adds 16 years of generator maintenance expertise. Together they employ more than 110 people, including 70 engineers.
What's the endgame? The combined business will offer full turnkey solutions — from system design and installation to commissioning, maintenance, remote monitoring, and lifecycle support — across the UK and Ireland. It spans DTGen's bases in Glasgow, Bristol, and Northampton, plus Realpower's site in Moydrum, County Westmeath. The company expects to add at least 10 new jobs.
New leadership: Farrell Spollen has been appointed managing director for Ireland, tasked with driving growth and strengthening DTGen's Irish presence. Realpower's customers will keep their existing service under the expanded group.
Why Ireland? The expansion targets sectors where backup power underpins business continuity, including data centres, retail, banking, and financial services. "For engineers and consultants working in high-demand environments, including data centres, the combined business offers practical engineering expertise, local service support and the scale," said Nigel Newton, managing director of DTGen.
Realpower owner Michael Tumulty called the deal "a positive step," adding that customer commitments "will not change."
The signal: The acquisition reflects DCC Energy Ireland's continued investment in specialist energy businesses, as demand for reliable backup power grows alongside data centre and critical infrastructure build-out. Consolidating project delivery with maintenance expertise gives the group scale to compete for larger, resilience-focused contracts.
