Rocket Software buys Geniez AI to put agents on the mainframe

What's the deal? Rocket Software has acquired Geniez AIDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a generative AI company whose expert agents run directly on the mainframe to monitor live systems, diagnose incidents, and execute workflows via natural language. The Waltham, Massachusetts-based modernization firm announced the deal on October 13, 2026. Terms were not disclosed.

What's the endgame? Rocket wants to move enterprises from manual, expertise-heavy mainframe management to AI-assisted operations. Geniez AI's technology will feed new capabilities inside Rocket EVA, the company's agentic AI platform for core systems.

The hire: The deal brings Geniez AI's technical leadership and engineering team to Rocket, including co-founder and chief executive officer Gil Peleg. "Joining Rocket gives us the scale, customer reach, and deep mainframe expertise to bring that vision to more organizations," Peleg said.

Why now? Mainframes still run mission-critical workloads, but the workforce that manages them is thinning. Rocket frames the acquisition as a way to close that skills gap by turning institutional knowledge into usable intelligence for both veteran and newer teams.

Rocket said the combination will let customers apply AI agents that surface insights and automate workflows "with appropriate governance and control." The firm serves over 13,500 customers and 850 partners, and has more than 3,000 employees.

The signal: The deal reflects a broader push to extend agentic AI into legacy infrastructure, where scarce expertise and high stakes have slowed adoption. For Rocket, buying specialised talent is a faster route to an AI roadmap than building it in-house.
