EBRD backs Türkiye power producer Enerjisa with $150M green loan

What's the deal? The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has approved a sustainability-linked loan of up to $150 million to Enerjisa ÜretimDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, one of Türkiye's largest independent power producers. The financing will replace short-term debt and fund renewable generation expansion.

What's the endgame? Enerjisa Üretim runs about 4.7GW of installed capacity across 37 plants, spanning hydropower, wind, solar, and thermal assets. The loan swaps short-term borrowing for long-term funding, freeing the company to keep its renewable pipeline moving.

What's unusual? The loan is sustainability-linked, tying repayment terms to Enerjisa Üretim's commitments on renewable capacity and CO2 reductions.

Why now? Türkiye's power system faces rising demand alongside pressure to cut emissions and shore up supply. Shifting from short-term to longer-term financing helps maintain continuity in project pipelines.

EBRD's managing director for the sustainable infrastructure group, Harry Boyd-Carpenter, said the structure would strengthen the firm's resilience and support new capacity. Deputy chief executive officer Mert Yaycıoğlu said the financing "supports the company's renewable energy investments," adding that Enerjisa Üretim is focused on balancing financial discipline with sustainable growth.

The deal continues a long relationship: EBRD has backed Enerjisa Üretim's renewable projects before, financing wind-power developments in 2012, 2023, and 2025.

The signal: The loan shows how development finance props up private-sector clean energy by improving balance-sheet resilience rather than funding single projects. For Türkiye, more domestic renewable generation means diversified supply and less reliance on emissions-intensive sources.
