It marks the firm's first investment in Georgia and Central Asia.
What does TelAgri do? The company combines satellite imagery, artificial intelligence, and agronomic expertise to support agricultural lending. Its technology helps banks assess farm risks, monitor loan portfolios, and flag potential problems before borrowers default.
What's the money for? The investment will fund product development, expansion into new emerging markets, and deeper partnerships with banks and governments. TelAgri already works with financial institutions and public-sector partners across the Caucasus and Central Asia.
Why now? Agriculture remains one of the most underfinanced sectors in developing economies. Up to 70% of smallholder farmers lack access to finance, largely because lenders lack reliable farm-level data, according to estimates by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and ADB.
What they're saying: "TelAgri is an excellent example of local innovation addressing a very practical challenge," said Lesley Bearman Lahm, ADB country director for Georgia.
Chief executive officer and co-founder Irakli Chikava framed the deal as validation of the company's model. "This investment is an important endorsement of our vision to build the data infrastructure that underpins agricultural financing in emerging markets," he said.
The signal: ADB Ventures backs early-stage companies tackling development challenges across Asia and the Pacific, with a focus on agritech, fintech, and climate resilience. Its first move into the region positions farm-level data as the missing piece for unlocking agricultural credit in underserved markets.
