What's the deal? INSURICADealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, one of the 40 largest US insurance brokers, has acquired WorkCompOneDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a direct-to-consumer digital agency specialising in workers' compensation coverage for small businesses. The deal was effective September 1, with terms undisclosed.

What's included? The acquisition covers WorkCompOne's website, book of business, and prospect acquisition capabilities. Founded in 2012, WorkCompOne was an early mover in bringing small-business insurance buying online, helping thousands of owners quote and secure coverage.

What's the endgame? The deal strengthens INSURICA's digital capabilities and its ability to reach new small-business prospects, said John Hester, INSURICA's chief acquisitions and digital strategy officer. He added that it positions the company for future growth.

Why it matters. WorkCompOne worked with carrier partners on integrated rating solutions that improved classification, raised accuracy, and sped up quoting. Hester said those strengths could benefit INSURICA beyond its digital division.

“From a policy issuing standpoint, a rating standpoint, WorkCompOne could benefit not just the digital division, but also other parts of INSURICA, particularly programs,” Hester said.

What they're saying. Founder Todd Smith said INSURICA is well positioned to build on WorkCompOne's foundation through its digital arm, INSURICA DirectDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. “What excites me most is that this isn't about technology replacing the insurance professional,” Smith said. “It's about using technology to make the insurance professional, carrier and customer experience better.”

By the numbers. INSURICA places more than $2 billion in annual premiums and is the 25th largest privately held independent agency in the US. It employs over 1,000 people across 35-plus offices in 11 states.

The signal: The deal reflects how traditional brokers are buying digital agencies to modernise how small businesses quote and buy coverage, rather than building those capabilities from scratch.
