Taurus beats target to close $301M fund of funds
What's the deal? Taurus Private MarketsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Malvern, Pennsylvania firm, has closed its third fund, Taurus Private Markets Fund III, LP, at $301 million. The fund of funds initially targeted $225 million and finished oversubscribed, drawing commitments from public pension plans, Taft Hartley plans, and family offices.
What's the endgame? Taurus backs value-oriented, lower middle market leveraged buyout and private credit partnerships with target fund sizes below $1.25 billion. It also invests in venture capital partnerships targeting under $750 million, complemented by co-investments in private companies and secondary transactions.
Why now? Co-founder and managing general partner Kevin Campbell called the reception from institutional investors "incredible," framing it as notable in "a formidable fundraising environment." Clearing its target by more than $75 million suggests appetite for the firm's North America-focused strategy held up.
The firm, founded in 2018 by Campbell and Eric Wilcomes, says its approach has not shifted even as private markets changed. "We believe our disciplined approach and time-tested portfolio construction will continue to deliver meaningful returns for our investors," Wilcomes said.
The signal: A smaller manager beating its target points to continued demand for diversified access to lower middle market buyout, private credit, and venture — segments where investors often rely on fund of funds to spread risk across managers.
