X4 secures up to $150M debt facility to advance rare-disease drug

What's the deal? X4 Pharmaceuticals has entered a senior secured term loan facility of up to $150 million with K2 HealthVenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. The first $80 million tranche funded at closing, replacing a prior loan agreement.

Where the money went: X4 used the initial tranche to repay all obligations under its earlier loan, including $75 million of principal, plus fees and closing costs. A further $70 million may become available at X4's request, subject to K2HV approval.

What's the endgame? The Boston-based company develops therapies for rare hematology diseases. Its lead drug, mavorixafor — sold as XOLREMDI for WHIM syndrome — is now in a Phase 3 trial (4WARD) for chronic neutropenia.

Why now? The facility offers a larger size, longer interest-only period, and a 48-month maturity to support a potential commercial launch of mavorixafor in chronic neutropenia. X4 expects to complete Phase 3 enrollment by year-end 2026 and report topline data in the first half of 2028.

The new structure "provides additional flexibility on more favorable terms and is aligned with our strategic priorities," said David Kirske, chief financial officer of X4.

The signal: For a clinical-stage biotech, refinancing on better terms ahead of pivotal data buys runway without diluting shareholders — a notable move as X4 pushes mavorixafor toward FDA approval.
