What's the endgame? Fireshine plans long-tail support for the PC title and new versions for additional platforms, widening Necesse's reach beyond its current audience.

Why now? The deal caps a busy 2026 for the label. It launched Early Access co-op shooter Far Far West, which has sold about 1.5 million units on Steam, and action indie Denshattack!, which holds an 88% Metacritic rating, has drawn more than 300,000 players, and earned four Gamescom Award nominations.

What they said: "This is a defining moment for Fair Games," Skovgaard said. "Necesse has been looking for a partner for a long time, and Fireshine feels like the perfect fit."

The signal: Publishers are increasingly buying the indie studios behind their proven hits, trading one-off deals for owned catalogues. For Fireshine, acquiring a game with millions of players and a loyal base offers a lower-risk route to growth than building from scratch.
