Sunstone Credit launches Flex, extending $6M energy loans beyond solar
What's the deal? Sunstone Credit on October 7, 2026 launched Flex, a financing product for commercial energy projects including HVAC, roofing, energy performance, and EV charging. It lets contractors offer customers embedded financing from $25,000 to $6 million, with fixed rates and terms up to 15 years.
What's the endgame? The New York-based lender already works with more than 1,000 solar contractor partners nationwide and has fielded over $2 billion in loan applications since inception. Flex extends that platform past solar to a wider range of energy-related projects for commercial property owners, including multifamily buildings, HOAs, religious institutions, and nonprofits.
How it works: Contractors send customers an online application link, and Sunstone handles documentation, follow-up, and processing. Most credit decisions arrive in under a week, financing requires no liens on the customer's real estate, and a portion of funding is available upfront at contract signing.
Why now? Commercial construction inputs have risen 56.4% since February 2020, pushing up the cost of energy-related building work. Without financing to offer, contractors risk losing jobs or pushing customers toward slow, paperwork-heavy bank loans that can take months to close.
“Too often, mission-critical projects get delayed or canceled because of budget and cash flow constraints,” said Josh Goldberg, co-founder and chief executive officer of Sunstone Credit. “We're helping contractors win more bids and helping their customers get projects done without the friction of traditional financing.”
The signal: Embedded financing is spreading from solar into adjacent building trades as rising costs make large energy upgrades harder to approve. By bundling credit into the sales process, Sunstone is betting contractors will win bigger jobs — turning a roof repair into a full replacement, or adding battery storage to an existing system.
