Outsight buys GRASP to automate airport security lanes
What's the deal? Outsight has acquired GRASP Aviation InnovationsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, pairing its 3D LiDAR-based Spatial Intelligence technology with software that automatically manages passenger queues and lane assignments at airport security checkpoints. Financial terms were not disclosed.
What each side brings: Outsight builds sensing infrastructure that tracks passenger movement across terminals. GRASP makes software for smart queue guidance, routing, dynamic queue control, and load balancing — directing passengers to specific lanes via screens and automated gates.
What's the endgame? The deal pushes Outsight beyond measuring movement toward controlling checkpoint operations. The combined system recalculates where passengers should go, how queues are configured, and when lanes open or close every second, based on forecasts, live arrivals, and lane throughput.
Outsight calls the result a "Motional Digital Twin" covering the checkpoint from queue entrance to lane exit. The acquisition replaces legacy sensing — including stereovision and lane radar — with Outsight's LiDAR platform, which can combine with boarding-pass data, flight schedules, and lane equipment.
Why now? Security checkpoints suit automation because arrivals and lane performance shift continuously, leaving some lanes overloaded while others sit idle. GRASP's load-balancing algorithms steer more passengers toward better-performing lanes and away from congestion.
Airport staff keep manual control through central terminals, tablets, and switches near the gates.
The reach: GRASP's technology already runs at several major European airports, deployed across nine lanes at one hub. Outsight says more than 280 million passengers a year travel through environments measured by its platform, with customers including Singapore ChangiDealroom has a profile for this one. "With GRASP, that intelligence now acts directly on the checkpoint: which lane each passenger should take, how long the queue should be, when a lane should open," said Outsight president and founder Raul Bravo. The combined system is available to airports globally immediately.
The signal: The deal marks a shift in airport tech from analytics that observe passenger flow to systems that make and execute operational decisions — moving sensor data from the dashboard into direct control of the checkpoint.
