Symmetric lands first institutional backing from Spectrum Equity after eight profitable years

What's the deal? SymmetricDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a healthcare supply chain intelligence provider, has raised a growth equity investment led by Spectrum Equity. It is the first institutional capital for the company, which has been profitable since its 2018 founding by Rich Kucera, TJ Dardet, Jon Boerner, and Ryan Kissell.

What does it do? Every hospital runs on an item master — a catalog of up to 500,000 rows covering every product it procures. The data changes daily, but no one in the chain owns keeping it accurate, causing revenue leakage, excess cost, and patient safety risks.

Symmetric maintains what it calls the world's largest database of continuously updated item data: nearly 20 million healthcare items, each with up to 1,800 metadata attributes, plus five million verified substitutes. Its pipeline draws on hundreds of sources and pushes a single reconciled record into a hospital's ERP, reporting a 96% average match rate.

How prominent is it? Symmetric serves customers across US healthcare, from large academic medical centers to critical access hospitals with fewer than 25 beds. A majority switched from an incumbent provider, and 98% of customers have stayed since founding.

What's the money for? The investment funds new products and strategic hiring. The company plans to expand go-to-market and customer success, and build out Contract Management — a recently launched product already used by more than one in five customers — alongside a supply chain control tower, revenue integrity tools, and a supplier portal.

Why now? "You can't leverage AI on top of data you don't trust," said Michael Radonich, managing director at Spectrum Equity. "Symmetric has spent the last eight years working to solve that data problem, becoming the system of record for supply chain data at some of the largest health systems in the country."

The signal: As health systems chase AI-driven operational gains, clean underlying data becomes the gating factor. The bet here is that owning the trusted data layer — not the AI on top — is where durable value sits in hospital supply chains.
