BioFirst buys out Biotrop, taking full control of Brazilian biologicals maker

What's the endgame? BioFirst wants to simplify Biotrop's structure, deepen its integration, and expand synergies in biological crop protection. Biotrop, part of the group since 2023, makes biopesticides, biostimulants, and inoculants for extensive and specialty crops.

Why now? "The full acquisition accelerates integration and allows for capturing synergies more quickly," said chief executive officer Jean-Marc Vandoorne. BioFirst says the transaction adds no liabilities, as the operation was already fully provisioned.

Biotrop's management stays on, and Antonio Zem remains on the BioFirst board.

What's the scale? Biotrop's most recent 2026 investment targets production of 23 million litres of beneficial bacteria and 600 tonnes of beneficial fungi. That capacity could serve up to 50 million hectares of farmland in Brazil.

President Jonas Hipólito said integration expands the conditions for growth outside Brazil and for offering biological solutions in new markets.
