Try Dealroom → to $30.8 million, backing technologies that help New Zealand's dairy and livestock sectors cut greenhouse gas emissions without hurting farm productivity or export competitiveness.

Where the money goes: The fund supports a research and commercialisation pipeline that has already invested more than $80 million across 21 ventures, field trials, and scientific projects. The portfolio spans methane-inhibiting rumen boluses, microbial probiotics, low-methane genetics, optimised forage cultivars, and enteric methane vaccines.

What's the endgame? The roadmap shifts from lab research toward products farmers can use. Developers expect to launch one or two verified mitigation technologies each year through 2030, aiming to give pastoral farmers five to six practical options for cutting enteric methane and nitrous oxide.

Why pasture is different: New Zealand's pasture-based dairy industry has different needs from the intensive, housed systems of Europe and North America. Housed operations can mix emissions-reducing products into controlled feed; grazing animals need solutions that work across rotational pasture.

What could go wrong? Residue compliance is critical for high-value exports. Any technology used in milk-producing animals must leave no unacceptable chemical residues to keep access to major Asian and North American markets, especially infant nutrition and premium grass-fed categories.

Why now? Major dairy processors and red meat exporters face growing pressure from multinational food companies to cut Scope 3 emissions across supply chains. For New Zealand, where dairy and livestock exports are a major source of foreign exchange, the economic stakes are high.

The signal: Public and private money is converging on the problem. The government has set up a $51 million Early Adoption AcceleratorDealroom has a profile for this one.
