Liquidity Services buys auction platform Invaluable for $80M

What's the deal? Liquidity Services has acquired Invaluable, the operator of online auction marketplaces Invaluable, AuctionZipDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, and RFC Auction SystemsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, for $80 million. The Bethesda-based, NASDAQ-listed company announced the completed deal on October 1, 2026.

What each side does: Liquidity Services runs e-commerce marketplaces that power the circular economy. Invaluable operates a global online auction marketplace and technology suite serving thousands of auction houses and four million buyers in collectibles, fine art, antiques, jewellery, and estate markets.

What's the endgame? The acquisition fits Liquidity Services' strategy of investing in marketplace platforms in sectors ripe for innovation. It plans to use its operating expertise, buyer monetisation tools, and technology to help auction houses increase sales and execution across the combined platform.

Why now? The $10 billion-plus collectibles, art, and antiques market is still shifting to online commerce. Invaluable's multi-currency, multi-lingual platform and two decades of proprietary pricing data position it to capture that transition.

What changes for customers? Invaluable and AuctionZip will keep operating under their existing brands. The combined business aims to accelerate work on shipping, payments, and AI-driven efficiencies.

"Joining Liquidity Services will allow us to accelerate our product roadmap in areas such as shipping and payments, lean into AI to unlock new efficiencies and experiences, expand global demand, and deliver the best possible platform for both bidders and auction houses," said Brett Malone, chief executive officer of Invaluable.

The signal: The deal reflects continued consolidation in online marketplaces, as operators with scale and infrastructure absorb category specialists to extend their reach into fragmented, high-value niches moving online.
