What stays put? New Republic Bank's Charlotte, North Carolina branch and its core clients remain with American Pride Bank, rebranded in July. Clients continue working with the same bankers at 700 East Morehead Street.

Why now? American Bancorp brought New Republic Bank into its fold through a stock-for-stock merger completed on November 7, 2025 — less than a year before this sale. The company now says it wants to concentrate on its strongest markets.

What's the endgame? "This sale lets us focus on the markets where we're growing fastest, while our core Charlotte clients keep the bankers they know and trust," said Dominik Mjartan, president and chief executive officer of American Bancorp and American Pride Bank.

American Pride Bank, founded in 2007, serves entrepreneurs across the southeastern US. It is a designated Minority Depository Institution and Benefit Corporation.

The signal: The quick sale, roughly 11 months after the merger closed, points to a focused consolidation strategy: American Bancorp is paring back to a single brand and the regions where it sees the fastest growth, while handing off New Republic Bank to a new owner.
