Grass, backed by Multicoin, projects $75M in 2026 data revenue
What's the deal? Multicoin CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has invested in GrassDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a decentralized bandwidth-sharing network, through both its hedge fund and venture capital fund. Partner Shayon Sengupta announced the deal on September 29, calling Grass a "reading layer for machine intelligence."
The numbers: Grass reported $17 million in revenue for 2025 and another $17 million in the first half of 2026. It claims to be profitable and projects that revenue from training data alone will hit $75 million in 2026.
What does Grass do? Over the past 18 months, it has paid contributors in crypto to share unused bandwidth, which it uses to query and parse the public internet. That data feeds into AI training pipelines.
The scale: More than 6 million contributors have received rewards, funded by revenue from their contributions, according to Grass's own report. Nearly all its AI clients make repeat purchases, and the company has collected over 1 billion public web videos.
What's the endgame? Grass plans to launch a Contents API letting models open and render public pages via residential networks, plus a Search API and web indexing. Some of its video data is already used with Multicoin portfolio company Inference.net to train video annotation models.
The signal: As AI firms compete for fresh, high-quality training data, decentralized networks that crowdsource web access are emerging as a paid supply channel — one Grass claims is already turning a profit.
