Serán Bioscience lands growth equity to scale spray dry manufacturing

The expansion: Serán is building a greenfield commercial facility in Bend, Oregon, set for completion in the third quarter of 2027. The multi-suite plant will support OEB4 manufacturing for oral, pulmonary, and other delivery modalities, integrating with an adjacent packaging and logistics facility to form a campus of more than 200,000 square feet.
Why now? The build-out is a direct response to rising client demand. "As the industry develops increasingly complex oral drugs, we're seeing growing demand for spray drying capabilities," said Socrates Zacharias, a principal at Biospring Partners.
What's the endgame — cont.? Co-founder and chief executive officer Dan Smithey called the investment "a significant milestone in Serán's evolution as we rapidly scale our clinical manufacturing operations to support launches of new medicines." The facility will add finished-dose capabilities spanning granulation, tableting, coating, encapsulation, and specialised dry powder filling for inhalation products.
The signal: The round reflects continued investor appetite for CDMOs as pharma companies outsource increasingly complex oral drug production. Serán's bet is that specialised particle engineering, paired with end-to-end commercial supply, will keep it ahead of that demand.
