Peak XV lifts Surge seed cap to $5M, unveils 18-startup cohort
What's the deal? Peak XV on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 unveiled Surge 12, a cohort of 18 startups, investing more than $50 million across the group. The companies have raised over $90 million in seed funding.
Why now? Surge 12 is the first cohort to run under Peak XV's raised per-startup ceiling of up to $5 million, up from the prior $3 million cap. The firm says the higher checks let it back more capital-intensive AI and deep-tech startups facing a tougher bar to Series A.
What's the endgame? The cohort skews toward AI and capital-intensive deep tech, with examples including Reinforce LabsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → in enterprise AI safety, PuralinkDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s underground-pipe robots, and ULOOKDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s satellite RF sensing.
Peak XV pairs the larger checks with program support across hiring, product and engineering, go-to-market, communications, and policy to help companies scale globally.
The signal: Surge, launched in 2019, has backed more than 180 startups, and Peak XV says its top 10 alumni now generate over $1 billion in combined annual revenue. It cites that track record to justify bigger early bets in a harder Series A fundraising environment.
