Silentbox turns acoustic booths into pay-per-use spaces
What's the deal? SilentboxDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a European manufacturer of acoustic booths, is moving into Space-as-a-Service (SPaaS), turning its booths into bookable, pay-per-use spaces for calls, meetings, and focused work in shared and public locations. Users book and pay for a booth when they need it, rather than a company owning it outright.
How it works: Under the model, a booth is no longer permanently assigned to one team. Instead, it becomes a shared resource that different users can book throughout the day. Silentbox Cloud handles booking, payment, access, and workspace management.
Why now? The model is already running commercially at a shopping centre in Lisbon, where Silentbox booths average 78% occupancy and more than 500 bookings per month, with a user rating of 4.8 out of 5.
What's the endgame? The move marks Silentbox's expansion from manufacturing into services. It plans to grow its SPaaS network across European and international markets, targeting offices, shopping centres, airports, business centres, and coworking spaces.
The backstory: Founded in 2019, Silentbox has more than 500 booths installed across 30-plus countries and 92 cities. It designs and manufactures in-house, and its Premium line is laboratory-tested to ISO 11957 and ISO 23351-1, with sound insulation of up to 35dB depending on the configuration.
The signal: SPaaS brings the pay-for-access principle already common in software and coworking to a single unit of workplace infrastructure. For location owners, it offers a way to earn revenue from existing floor space. "We see an opportunity to make acoustic infrastructure more flexible and accessible," said co-founder Svyatoslav Serbin.
