Inter-2: Copenhagen's Interhuman AI teaches machines to read body language

What's the deal? Copenhagen-based InterhumanDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → AI has released Inter-2, a model that analyses social signals across text, audio, and video in real time. It reads facial expressions, tone of voice, body language, and cues such as shifts in gaze and posture to detect 12 signals, including engagement, hesitation, uncertainty, and disagreement.

What's the endgame? The startup is building what it calls Artificial Social Intelligence — giving AI the perceptual ability humans use to navigate interactions. It combines behavioural science with machine learning to translate how people read one another into signals machines can process.

Inter-2 is the first model in a new family. The company says it delivers up to four times faster inference and improved benchmark performance, making real-time detection more practical at scale.

Why now? Chief executive officer Paula Petcu said the idea emerged with the mainstream arrival of large language models such as ChatGPTDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, which transformed how people used AI but remained blind to non-verbal cues. She was then working in pharma, exploring how AI could better understand patients in clinical trials.

Petcu met co-founder Line Clemmensen, who had researched the field, through a webinar, and the pair built an AI coach that responded to how something was said, not just what. They later joined AntlerDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s matchmaking programme, where chief operating officer Frederik Sally joined.

What could go wrong? Petcu points to risks in AI-powered healthcare triage: a system that cannot detect distress could misinterpret a caller and make the wrong decision about emergency care. As Sally put it, "A correct answer delivered at the wrong moment is still a bad answer."

The signal: Interhuman is one of a relatively small number of European AI startups building its own models, and it is chasing a layer the major labs mostly ignore. According to Petcu, big labs focus on general intelligence and productivity, leaving human communication and social-signal detection under-explored — a gap that grows as AI moves into healthcare, robotics, and other human-facing roles.

Interhuman previously raised a €2M pre-seed round in August 2025, led by PSV, with participation from Antler, Ada Ventures, and the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark (EIFO).
