Try Dealroom → to launch "AATECH — Building an AI Infrastructure for Financial Services," a €2.5 million acceleration programme in Italy's Lazio region. The venture capital vehicle will select and back five startups focused on artificial intelligence and innovation applied to financial services.

Who's putting in the money? VENTURE TECH Lazio, the regional fund managed by Lazio Innova and co-financed by the PR FESR 2021-2027 programme, contributes €1.5 million. AATech adds €1 million as co-investor, giving a fixed 60/40 split.

How it works: Each of the five startups will receive €500,000 in exchange for newly issued equity. Startups must operate in — or be willing to expand into — the Lazio region. AATech handles scouting, selection, and acceleration.

Why now? The deal follows a positive evaluation under a public call promoted by Lazio Innova, closing the negotiation phase. Operations start in the second half of 2026, with the investment period ending by June 30, 2029, subject to a possible six-month extension.

What's the endgame? AATech wants to pair capital with its industrial and financial-sector expertise. "We believe artificial intelligence represents one of the main directions of innovation in the market," said Alessandro Andreozzi, president and chief executive officer of AATech (translated from Italian).

The signal: Public-private co-investment is emerging as a route to build regional AI ecosystems. By tying a small fund to a specific sector and geography, Lazio is betting that targeted acceleration — not scale — can seed long-term technological value.
