Silk lands $45M debt facility to build the data layer for AI agents
What's the deal? Silk, a data platform built for agentic AI workloads, has closed a $45 million growth capital facility led by Avenue Capital GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. Who backed it? The roster of participants stands out: Sequoia Capital sits alongside a spread of growth and venture firms behind the Needham, Massachusetts-based company. Avenue Capital Group, which led, lends to high-growth, venture-backed technology and life sciences companies.
What's the endgame? Silk says general-purpose cloud infrastructure was never built for the real-time demands of AI agents. It claims up to 10x performance gains and up to 69% lower cloud costs, with no application rearchitecting required.
Where does the money go? Silk plans to expand engineering investment, scale go-to-market coverage of neocloud, sovereign, and inference cloud providers, and deepen its footprint across Amazon Web ServicesDealroom has a profile for this one. Why now? "The shift from training-centric infrastructure toward autonomous agent-based production is happening now," said founder and chief executive officer Dani Golan. He argues companies spend heavily on compute only to "wait on the data layer beneath it."
The signal: Machine traffic now outpaces human traffic on parts of the web, and the money is following. Silk's backers are betting the data layer — not raw GPU capacity — is the next bottleneck as agentic AI moves from pilot to production.
